Why Do Doctors Wear Blue or Green Scrubs During An Operation?
Scrubs are the shirts and trousers or gowns worn by surgeons. this uniform was originally known as “surgical greens” because of its color. There are three types of cones (cells present in the retina of the eye which are responsible for color vision ) with different sensitivities depend on the colors, red, blue and green in human eyes . Red -sensitive cones are most numerous , followed by cones sensitive to green and blue. This is also why red captures our attention more easily than other colors .
Thus, Green and blue surgical gowns make looking at the inside of a human body easier on the eyes and having an operating room full green or blue allows the doctors to focus on the red color of blood. If a surgeon stares at something that’s red and pink, The red signal in his brain actually fades, which could make it harder to see the nuances of the human body.
